What a wonderful source of information for young children—— and probably adults as well.
This book is set out in cartoon and comic book format and is divided into eight chapters. Each chapter has a broad heading e.g. ‘ Going Places’ and ‘ House and Home ‘ . When the book is open the left hand page describes the origin of a particular item and the opposite right hand page gives the current situation and possible future developments. At the end of each chapter a particular individual is highlighted, giving a broad outline of his/her career and contribution to modern society.
The text is broken up into bite sized pieces and is often shown in speech bubbles. The book is packed full of fascinating information which is imparted in an informal and entertaining manner.
From start to finish the book bursts with colourful and appealing illustrations. This is a treasure trove for young enquiring minds.
One tiny gripe —- I was surprised by the fact that the text has a slant towards Americanisms for example the use of ‘ potato chips’ rather than ‘crisps’ . However on reflection I realise that this is probably a publishing strategy for a wide audience.
A great addition to any child’s bookshelf or school library.
