The cover shows two young women looking out over smoky industrial Belfast, this frames the story very well. This is a great story, set in the Second World War. The ever present back drop is the Nazi raids on the city, the attitudes and pressures of that time, and the lack of freedom for young women at that time. The characters are totally believable, the details do so accurately reflect the period , including the disapproving mother who doesn’t actually say, just hints and frowns. This is a wonderful book!
