I am an avid reader of the wartime sagas, but I found this book very hard to get into. The writing style and the plot was very mismatched and did not flow well at all. It was hard to keep up with the characters and the storyline. I did like the fact that it was set in Belfast, this is the first book that I have read about this, so I found some of the parts quite interesting. The book tells the story of a middle class family, but mainly focuses on the two sisters, Audrey, who is engaged to Richard, a doctor and Emma, who is coming to terms with being in love with a woman. I feel that this book needed more structure and the writing needed to be more consistant as it felt like you didn't know where you were as it flipped from one story to another and got quite confusing, it took me weeks to actually read this book, which is not like me and I felt like giving up half way through as I really could not get into it. Even the ending was a little disappointing.
