This book is set in Belfast during WW2 and mainly centres on two sisters, Audrey who has recently got engaged to Richard, but you get the feeling that maybe she doesn't really love him, and Emma who is in love with another woman, something that would've caused a huge scandal in those days. It really brings to life the fear and horror of living through the blitz in Belfast, which is something I'd never thought of before as when you think of the blitz it's almost always London that springs to mind.
If I'm honest I didn't really take to either Audrey or Emma, but loved Paul their younger brother, reading about him just made me smile, I also liked Wee Betty who was so desperate to grow just a little bit taller.
I did like this book and managed to read it in a few days ( am I the only one who read it with an Irish accent in her head?) but for me there was a few loose ends that could've done with tidying up.
