I didn't think this book would be for me, not really being my genre and being from an entirely different culture but I loved it! It's interesting to get an inside look at another ethnicity and learn more about a different group within our society. I love that with my ridiculously limited knowledge of the culture I can still understand and follow the story well without the story being stripped of its culture. A surprisingly beautiful read for me.

I love how the book starts, it's beautifully written and also tugs at your heartstrings. When Bilal's mother dies, she questions him about 'Who are you?' Being submersed within white society, Bilal forgets Punjab and his roots. His mother's last request was to build a mosque. It's incredible to see his conflict between two worlds, who is really? A mixture of both? I love that he starts to think about life, what's the meaning of it and what do we leave behind?

Will he get to the root of his culture and regain who he is for his mother?

I'm very excited to see more of how this character unfolds. I have a feeling this story is going to be impactful and full of great philosophy on family, culture and life.
