The novel opens with Bilal Hasham sat by his mother's deathbed, in her home, his wife Mariam is also present. This short prologue tells us so much about the family dynamics, the fact that his mother does not approve of his wife and that Bilal has had a privileged life. We learn so much about these three characters and that Bilal will have to make a life changing decision.
The writing is rich and evocative and I could see the humour within it. I think this will be an entertaining and thoughtful read.
