Interesting synopsis, first chapter not as convincing

The synopsis looks really good, the whole duality between morals and self identity, seems to fit in well in today's politics and beliefs. However, the first chapter didn't grab me. It might just be one of those harder to get into books. To be fair, the preview itself, considering all the introduction didn't leave much space for the proper novel reading.
