I was procrastinating to read this book for a long time. The novel starts with a dying scene and I couldn't imagine how can this be a funny story after all. But at the end my curiosity won and I picked up the book.
Now, after reading it, I have only one question: why is this novel so less known?

This is story of a village torn apart after one of its residents, Bilal decides to fulfil his mother's last wish to build a mosque in Babbels End. There are only three Muslim people living in the village, Bilal and his family, but they have supporters, and while tension build up and the debate between the "pro- and anti-mosque parties" unfolds, the reader comes to know all the main participants and their problems (which are various and real).
The story is modern, relevant and interesting, also well-written and entertaining, full of funny scenes and twists. I laughed, cried from laughter, cried sad tears and shook my head in disbelief while reading. The characters are unique, relatable and loveable with all their flaws and problems.
For me this was one of the best books I've read this year (if not the best even). A heart-warming and uplifting story what will break the reader's heart and then piece it together.
