This isn't the kind of book I would generally gravitate towards so I decided to give it a go as the cover looks interesting and I really liked the preface of the book, and it didn't disappoint. The setting, the characters, the plotline and the mix of emotions the reader feels as the movel progresses is the work of a skilled author who not once makes the reader feel bored or disinterested. With This Green and Pleasant Land author Ayisha Malik has created a story with wide appeal that can educate the reader or make them nod in agreement, depending on their cultural background. It is also the story of a dream, and someone else's dream, obligation, trust, perseverance, love and community. There are laughs, tears, depth to the characters and a love of storytelling that comes through clearly in Malik's every word.
