A joy of a read, this book examines the lives of a bunch of residents in a typical perfect English countryside village. Everyone rubs along well enough - with obviously a few typically niggly things like overgrown bushes.
The village lines are drawn though when Bilal Hasham declares that he wishes to build a mosque (as he feels this would fulfil his mother's dying wish).
Before you know it the village is divided, secret donations are made, racist graffiti starts to anonymous appear and all trust seems lost.
Then, despite the "war", unlikely alliances are made - will everyone realise that the ultimate way forward is compromise?
This book is fun and uplifting and tackles some pretty hefty subjects with a light delicate touch. Just what we need at the moment, given the sometimes feverish nature of times we live in!
