Bilal and Mariam have lived in a lovely rural village for years and are part of the community. They are called back to Birmingham as Bilal's Mother is dying. On her death bed she asks him to look after his Aunty (Khala) and also to build a Mosque in his village. He agrees and she dies.
He then does nothing about the Mosque at first, but circumstances cause it to bubble into his consciousness and he puts it to the Parish Council. Some people are relaxed about this, but some are apoplectic and troops are rallied and sides taken. Meanwhile Khala comes to stay with them to recover after a fall and unbeknown to everyone becomes friends with Shelley who is the leader of the opposition to the Mosque.
I enjoyed this, it wasn't about religion, but about people and their relationships and ability to accept change.
