There were parts of this book I really enjoyed, and others that just didn't sound quite right. The flow of this book was, at times, disjointed and it wasn't a book that I couldn't possibly put down, it took several days for me to read it and I wasn't completely enthralled in the story. I think the premise for this novel was so educational for someone who isn't from a Muslim cultural background and I'm sure many Muslims who read this will find situations within the story that they can relate to. I love that we are introduced into the lives of so many different characters and not just Bilal and most of these topics are serious and I almost felt I was lacking some of the warmth I thought this novel would have.
I'm still not the biggest fan of the cover of this novel either, although the gold foiling is pretty, it still wouldn't jump out at me from the shelves.
I don't know really how I feel about this novel... it's not one that I think I'll read again, I just feel like I didn't fully connect with the characters as I normally do and the writing just let it down a little bit for me.
Although all opinions are my own I would like to thank Zaffre and Readers First for an advance publication copy.
