I found this book very interesting and enjoyable. It tells the story of Bilal who although Muslim is not religious, wears western dress and is only fluent in English. He moved away from Birmingham to live in a small village with his wife and her son. His mother's dying wish is that he build a mosque. Bilal tries to find ways to avoid doing this but eventually decides to try. This immediately causes a lot of trouble within the village. Alongside this theme is his relationship with his wife who still appears to love her ex husband who has recently come back into her life. Bilal's aunt is an interesting character who despite her initial fear of the country and lack of English has an effect on many of the people she meets
