What a lovely read! I really enjoyed this book and read it very quickly. The cover is twee and colourful and gave me an excellent first impression. The book is full of 3D, well developed characters that I warmed to right away. The author creates an excellent sense of space and village identity. I live in a small village and the sense of community and the sometimes conflicting characters is accurate.

This book is so much more than the premise that a Muslim man decides to push forward with his mum’s deathbed wish to build a mosque in their little village. It’s about village life, friendship, relationships in all their grisly realities, race, conflict and the meaning of that oft used word “home”. This book makes you ponder on your own relationships and your own definition of home long after you turn the last page; That, in my opinion, is the mark of a very good book.
