The books' protagonist, Zara, is obsessed with the idea of love in its ideal forms such as romantic comedies from the 1990s, romance novels and the idea of sweeping romantic gestures to sweep her off her feet. Due to all of this, she is searching for her own overpowering love story. Zara is not keen to help out her male best friend when he asks her to pretend to date him, a typical romantic comedy trope, in order to cover up his own real relationship. As a friend and loving daughter, she agrees to go along with it to make them all happy, even if she is not getting the love story she planned for herself. She has to pretend to be in love with her friend, complicating their friendship, and having to move between acting like they are in love in front of others and not when alone. With all the fake feelings, they turn real, and Zara has to deal with this unknown world and a new man who comes along.

An entertaining story, and a great bunch of characters which is great for those looking for their own love story in a complicated modern world.
