This was such a brilliant book, I laughed, commiserated and just fell in love with the characters. It’s both funny and adorably cute and yes romantic too, not in a saccharine way or “fake” (even though that does come into play) it just felt real. These are teenagers with all their emotions, moods and stresses of trying to be what they want but without upsetting their parents lives and yet not wanting what their culture or parents expects them to do or be. This is a diverse book but it’s not in your face, it’s subtle like in life you may not notice what is going on from the outside. It focuses not on the bad side of Asian culture (it does show the pressures kids do get) but it focuses on how they live within their communities but also how they have adapted to making their own life and trying to find that balance which one of the families within the story does understand. It’s loving and heartwarming and so funny. This is a book that should be read on all school lists.
