Held no appeal for me!
I need to start this review with a confession! Apart from the fact that I’m many decades beyond being in the target age group for this story, I’ve never been a fan of rom-coms and so when I submitted my first impression I thought I’d ‘unticked’ the box to be included in the draw! However, I either forgot to do so, or there was a glitch in the system, because I did receive a copy and therefore felt obliged to at least start reading it.
Over the years just one of the joys of agreeing to review books which I might otherwise not have chosen has been discovering some unexpected ‘gems’ in the YA genre and I hoped that Anika’s story would be one of those but sadly, for me it wasn’t. I found the shifts between straightforward narrative and texts, group chats, messaging-streams etc far too disruptive … although I do recognise that younger readers are likely to find this entirely normal and enjoyable! As I didn’t finish the book I’ll be posting this review only on the Readers First site and won’t be sharing it on other online platforms.
