Adnan and Zara are best friends, who their friends think should be a couple but they are not romantically inclined.
Adnan has a strict father so when he meets Cami he asks Zara to pretend to be in a relationship with him as a cover for his relationship with Cami. Her family seem delighted by this.
After a few threesome dates Zara then meets Yahya and life becomes more complicated.
Her parent’s argument does not particularly convince me, or add to the plot. What then is the motivation for Zara to continue to pretend to be Adnan’s girlfriend?
I can see this being a good read for teenagers despite the slow pace and convoluted plot.
I found the changes of style between narrative and other communication styles too disjointed for me but do recognise that this would be entirely normal and enjoyable for the target audience.
I’m definitely not the target age group for this but I do enjoy some YA fiction reads, however for me this is far more of a read for actual teens as some of the content just went straight over my head!
