I have just finished ‘This is How you Fall in Love’ by Anika Hussain. Based on a South Asian group of friends it depicts the lives of Zara and Adnan, friends since childhood which their parents hope will lead to a marriage union in the near future. The book delves into themes of young love, young adult friendship, trust, family dynamics and angst. There is an innocence and vulnerability with both of the main characters as they discover and explore their feelings and friendships with themselves and others.
I learnt things about South Asian culture and traditions that I did not know which I enjoyed. I also liked the interspersing of text dialogue which I see in more and more books now.
This is a good read for teenagers and young people who are exploring their own lives and loves. With themes of friendship, love and family it is an easy read that flows well.
