A very touching story
For her little daughter who can’t sleep a young mother keeps herself busy submerging into her own past. She needs to find her roots. Night after night Louisa tells her baby Jana stories: about her Serbian mother and her Turkish father and how her German parents adopted her.
Pia Ziefle’s debut „Those we love“ is an unusual, touching novel.
My opinion:
The story is about finding your own identity. It is tender and touched me deeply. I learned a lot about migration. And there were some surprising twists that I liked.
The novel is not an easy read, though. You need to stay focused because of the variety of characters in the book. That was a little confusing, especially in the beginning.
I love the narrative style. It has a poetic component as well.
“Those we love” is a novel I can highly recommend. I enjoyed it a lot.
