After reading Eithne’s excellent second book ‘Grace after Henry ‘ and really enjoyed it. I couldn’t wait to start reading her latest. I wasn’t disappointed!
The reader becomes really involved in the life of the families on Pine Road, where the householders are rarely as they seem from the outside.
One roots for Edie who is desperate to become a mother despite having a mother in law who allows her son to be bullied by his family.
Martha has been through utter trauma and suffers from flashbacks and it is these episodes which form the main plot.
One does not anticipate the clever major plot twist where everything changes the psyche of the main characters.
Throw in a school’s reputation, a hoarder and a love story subplot and one has the perfect read for an Autumn day.
Buy it, cosy up near the fire, pour yourself a drink and get to know the inhabitants of Pine Road and their interactions with each other.
You’ll be glad you did!
