I absolutely loved this book ! It’s very relatable and I think it could be just like any street in any town. It’s set in Pine Road in Dublin and it seems to be one of these new private developments, who’s street names follow a theme, in this case trees.
So there’s a wee group of women, all with different backgrounds who have a WhatsApp group. Sort of a modern neighbourhood watch but mainly for gossip. The characters are very relatable and you almost feel part of the group from the first page.
It is very witty and definitely laugh out loud in many places. However there are several stories that are serious and the main character Martha, certainly doesn’t have a funny backstory. The book starts with Martha and her family relocating from Limerick to Dublin under hushed circumstances, which aren’t long in coming out.
A really enjoyable book, I look forward to the next one from Eithne Shortall.
