Eithne Shortall has really aced it. Pine Road could be any road, in any neighbourhood, in any town. There are secrets behind every door on Pine Road, the biggest secret being Martha's. There is the columnist who writes a column on "perfect parenting" but we see for ourselves that her own parenting skills are far from perfect. The other neighbours are all hiding secrets as well.

There were moments that made me laugh out loud, partly in recognizing neighbours from hell, and partly from the Desperate Housewives meets I Love Lucy meets Coronation Street quality of the book. It is well written with engaging charaters and I wholeheartedly recommend it, because it was one of the most enjoyable I have read in a long time.
