mixed message
It must be tricky to write from the first-person perspective of someone who admits they "don't get people". I've only met this once before (in 'Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine') and find it quite a distancing experience as a reader. The cover too gives a mixed message; running feet in a street at night looks ominous but the colours are happy and warm.
This may be one of those books which take a while to get into.
