The book starts with someone (Jenni?) sitting near a cliff edge, full of regret for... something.
It then backtracks to an indeterminate previous time, when Jenni is taking the register for her form class before lessons start. She notices Destiny at the back - a seriously clever child who has recently joined the school but rarely attends. The bell rings and the rest of the pupils leave, but Jenni is concerned about Destiny who has a black eye and becomes distraught when her phone rings.
This is promising to be a thoroughly classy fast-paced thriller that I really want to read!
