This was a very unusual read which has you thinking you know what’s happening right until it flips on its head and you’re left questioning everything you’ve understood so far. The two main females, Jenni and Destiny are both really interesting characters with a lot of background which does affect how their stories play out - Jenni has suffered from PTSD from her time with the army and also struggles with a condition called alexithymia and Destiny is damaged from her mother’s inability to care for her and her time spent in the care system. This story makes you think about a lot of different and difficult issues that exist and the issues that teachers and social workers face but in a very readable way, there’s no preaching here just a very solidly written story which is full of surprises.
