Typically, I wouldn't pick up a YA fantasy novel. However, both the cover and the blurb caught my attention. This novel appears to be the perfect blend of darkness and intrigue, where siren royalty meets human royalty and although, the romance of this novel is yet to bloom, but I swear I can already feel it building.
The ideas of hearts and power are creative and unique, making me desperate to read how the rest of this novel plays out.
The writing of this novel is absolutely beautiful, the descriptions of the sea are vivid and detailed creating beautiful images inside my mind. Not to mention the characters whose perspectives we get to experience: selfish Lira who tries to hide any signs of humanity, but it already appears to be seeping through and Elian, begrudging royal who'd rather be be a pirate than a prince, and he suffers under the weight of his duty and what he feels is truly right.
