a fun and fast-paced read to get you out of a reading slump!

I really enjoyed To Kill a Kingdom! The book was very fast-paced yet detailed, and I was able to read it all in one sitting. I loved the characters, they were so diverse and unique, and all had their own secrets which added more suspense to the plot. Lira, the female protagonist, is very strong yet ruthless; and her character arc and relationship with Elian are among my favorite things about this book. Elian's humor and sarcasm made me smile at times and added a little light to the dark plot of the book. The side characters were also wonderful, and I loved learning about their pasts and seeing their personalities.

I loved the world building, especially the rewriting of the lore and the relations between the human world and the mysterious mermaid and siren realm. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves retellings; this retelling was done very well with several parallels to the Little Mermaid as well as many unique elements.
