Minor spoilers In my review I'm giving this 3.5🌟 however I'm not a savage so I always round it up on sites. This book was a bit choppy, like the waves on which it is set. One of the big surfs were the main characters, Elian and Lira. Brilliantly written and I loved the way they bounced off each other with their banter. What was to happen between them though was a little predictable. To both achieve something they needed the others heart. You can probably guess what happened.
The points where I was a bit lost at sea were the fight scenes that took place in or around water. I've never seen anyone get thrown to the floor under water, but all I imagined was the person floating to the ground (water tension and such?) And how the sirens fought so well when hampered by tails. Despite that the story was good, one of the better fairytale retellings I've read in a while (The Little Mermaid) if you like YA Fantasy with a romance trope, this is for you!
