I strongly enjoyed this book, and is fast becoming one of my favourites. The twist on the classic fairy tale of the little mermaid was intriguing to me, as fairy tale retellings are among my favourite categories in book genres. Christo's writing is very good and easy to follow, her portrayal and the characters drew me in and kept me wanting more. The enemies to lovers plot was fascinating, and greatly portrayed through the fabulous storytelling of Christo.
The slow burn between the main characters Lira (a siren princess) and Elian (a siren killer) was compelling and attractive, and made me incapable of putting the book down for a moment.
The opening line "I have a heart for every year I've been alive." drew me in instantaneously and had me asking for more details, which were given throughout the novel and the love hate relationship that was presented.
