I give this book 3.5 stars. As a short standalone, I flew through this book and was pretty pleased with the overall story. However, as more time passes, I realize that this book is quite unmemorable. It was fun while it lasted, but I don’t see myself reaching for this book ever again. I only remember a couple scenes, and the characters themselves are completely forgettable. What originally sold me on this book was the enemies to lovers, but there was no slowburn and hardly any payoff. That being said, I think most problems could be solved with this book being a little bit longer to give the readers time to connect and love the characters. As a stand-alone (and debut novel?), though, I understand why the book had to be the length that it is. For that, I can take a step back and appreciate this book as what it is and take it with a grain of salt. I can’t justify it having higher than 4 stars, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a pretty good book, especially for a debut.
