I bought this book when I heard its a Little Mermaid retelling, because why not try a YA version of it? At first it was quite hard to get into the book, as the tension between Lira and Elian hasn't developed yet. I loved how the author introduced Lira to us, because everyone loves a dangerous and stunning female lead, especially when she's red-haired and not a human. As a YA/NA fantasy reader, I wasn't quite impressed by the way the book started, as it didnt include any action which would make your heart beat faster, or make you get pulled into the book. I would have loved if the parts where death take place would be described more deeply (I know Im creepy) because it would have had more effect on the reader. I was little disappointed because there wasn't much tension, and sadly nothing made up for its lack. Did I still enjoy the book though? Yes. I can't keep my head out of pirate/mermaid/siren books, so this read was enjoyable, even if it could have been way better.
