To Kill a Kingdom is a wonderfully bewitching book that will hook you in and make you not want to stop reading. It's a twist on The Little Mermaid and tells the story of a vicious siren called Lira who kills humans and collects their hearts and her journey with Prince Elian who is a prince that sails the sea with his loyal crew, hunting sirens. This unlikely pair end up falling in love but it is done in such a way that you cannot help falling in love with them too. The descriptions and developments of the characters are so well done that the readers are given a great insight to their emotions as well as the darkness within them. This book teaches much of violence and cruelty and the causes behind it through theses two characters, especially Lira. Also, the descriptions of the places and settings are wonderful and brilliantly done, creating and bringing to life not only a world divided into different cities but one underwater as well where cruelty is nurtured.
