I loved this book! I generally find the idea of fairytale retellings really intriguing and this book definitely delivered. Once I'd gotten through the first couple of chapters of introducing the characters and the world, I couldn't put it down.
The book was successful in bringing inspiration in from The Little Mermaid, and I loved spotting all the different references to the more well known version of the tale, but the best thing was that it was individual and original enough to be its own story.
The expanded world was amazing to explore with the characters, and felt very easy to get a real picture of the various locations visited. The characters themselves were also fun to watch, both how they reacted to their situations and how they reacted to one another.
Definitely something I could read more of, but it worked really well as a standalone book.
