WOW! This book was riveting, fast-paced and imaginative!
I had been recommended this book by many friends, and at first I was slightly skeptical about picking it up as I don't often read fantasy about pirates or mermaids/sirens etc. But my gosh, was this book fun! I was very invested from the start as our initial protagonist, Lira, is quite clearly a 'villain' or at least very morally grey as she has murdered many men. I am usually a fan of protagonists who aren't all goody two shoes, so this piqued my interest right off the bat. I thought the author did a brilliant job of merging together a fast-paced and exciting plot, whilst also giving us just the right amount of world-building to sufficiently flesh out the story and setting. I also loved the fact this was a standalone book, it had a clear story structure and although the final climactic scene was slightly confusing, I ultimately left the book feeling satisfied and happy with the end.
Please go read it, you won't regret it!
