The little mermaid has always been my favourite of Disney's princesses so I was super excited when I found out this was a retelling and I immediately purchased it.
Lira is a siren who literally rips out the hearts of princes- already this was intriguing to me. I enjoyed how different to the little mermaid, liras parent figure here is evil and we get to see a darker side of the original. Elian is a prince who hunts the seas to kill sirens. If this isn’t a great basis for enemies to lovers then I don’t know what is. I always love the trope where they are out to kill each other but end up falling for each other.
As punishment liras mother turns her into a human and sends her to go kill Elian. This book as a whole was amazing, great characters, plot, fun. This is by far one of my favourite retellings, I am very interested to read more from this author in the future and
