This book was absolutely fantastic! A refreshing young adult debut from an author with a fabulous taste for world building and plot. Lira is a mermaid princess who has to kill princes to earn hearts - 1 for each year she has been alive. She has 17 already under the floorboards in her room buried in sand. It is only when she is told to kill a certain Prince for his heart where the adventure begins.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - the writing style was lyrical, descriptive. I dived deep into this fantasy world. The characters were well developed, following a dual perspective between chapters. The chapter art for Lira's chapters made me enjoy the book more - even for the aesthetic appearance. I would recommend this book for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J Maas and Laini Taylor.
