I loved this book from the very first page. You immediately get a feel for the main character, and jump straight into the action. This is YA fantasy retelling of the Little Mermaid, but make it murderous...
The world building was amazing, and the kingdom rulers were balanced. There was not quite as much diversity as I would have liked, but the characters were beautifully written and if not relatable, they weren't annoying. The 'Little mermaid' was an amazing woman, sarcastic, graceful, hell bent on revenge, and she didn't need a man to save her. Alexandra Christo wove a compelling tale full of magic, murder and plot twists in every chapter.
There was a romance aspect to it, and the enemies to lovers trope made perfect sense and was given a healthy amount of time to develop and grow.
