What if Ursula is the Sea Queen, the most beautiful creature upon all sirens?
What if the Little Mermaid is not actually a mermaid but the most deadly upon all sirens?

Lira or most commonly know as the Princes’ Bane is the only daughter of the Sea Queen, the princess of the Kingdom of Keto. According to an old tradition, every siren should take a human heart for their birthday. Princes’ hearts are Lira’s specialty. Her determination to kill the human future by killing their kingdom’s inheritors is driving her through her life. Along with her pursuit to impress her mother – The Sea Queen, and to prove herself worthy of replacing her mother as the new Sea Queen. Their tradition says that after the current Sea Queen collects her 60th human heath, she has to give her place to her daughter. This means that Lira has only 3 more years to deserve her mother’s place. But her mother is not so willing to give on her power, so she finds so many ways to prove that Lira doesn’t deserve her place and the power that come with it.
Elian is a Midasan prince. But he is a pirate and siren hunter as well. Midas is the biggest and most powerful kingdom in the world of humans. And his father, the king, is so determined to bring Elian back to solid ground and make him take his place as the new King of Midas. Elian, though, makes everything possible to avoid this. His life is in IMG_4561_polarrthe sea. His only love is the sea. Staying in the steady ground makes him sick.
Elian is on the mission to find the Princes’ Bane. The siren, who killed his friend, Prince Christian, the prince of the neighbourly kingdom. When he received information about the crystal known as The Eye of Keto, which can stop the Sea Queen once and for all, he doesn’t hesitate even a minute. He goes head before toes into the adventure, which will bring him to the highest point in the world, where this powerful weapon is hidden.
In the meantime, Lira earns her mother disguise, killing a prince 2 weeks in advance. The Sea Queen cursed her and gives her a human form with only one purpose – to find the Siren’s killer and bring her his heart. The one thing Lira doesn’t even think that it’s possible to happen is that in her human form she discovers her humanity and her loyalty. She finds out that humans are not bad. The only evil thing is her mother and if she takes her place there is a chance to stop this war between sirens and humans.
This dark retelling of The Little Mermaid deserves all the hype it gets. I got sucked in the story and couldn’t let the book down. I loved everybody. From Elian though Lira to all the secondary personages. They are so vivid, strong and loyal. I loved how selflessness is Elian. Ready to give up on his freedom and step in an obviously unhappy marriage with the only purpose – to kill the Sea Queen and stop the human massacre caused by the sirens. On the other side Lira is not acting like a spoiled and lost girl so she can steal Elian’s heart. Although she ends up in the world she knows so little about, she is strong, independent and with her own opinion.
I can’t point something I didn’t like in this book. The world-building is unique. I could feel the waves crashing in the ship. I could see the golden Capital of Midas, and feel the piercing cold wind of the Cloud Mountain on the top of the land of Págese. Christo’s storytelling is flowing and takes you into the story with the same ease, Elian’s ship slips in the sea.
