Let me start of by saying I am a massive fan of Sarah J Maas, and this book really satiates the hunger that she left in me. To Kill a Kingdom is fast paced, thrilling and seductive, it's a lot darker than your typical YA fantasy but as an older reader I think this is one of the reasons that attracts me to it! Alexandria Christo tells the compelling story of a siren ( Princess Lira ) that's bred to kill and, without falling into the traditional tropes, learns to love Prince Elian and his motley crew. Lira goes from literally collecting hearts to figuratively stealing them without going overboard on the romance.
So if you're into twisted retellings of traditional stories this little mermaid retelling will catch you, hook, line and sinker.
