For a debut book from a debut author, this was amazing; I couldn’t put it down.
I am a fantasy lover at heart, and I love fairytale retellings, so I was looking forward to seeing how such a well known tale as The Little Mermaid could be reinvented for a newer audience, and I was not disappointed. This book was dark and it was gritty; it was everything I wanted and I needed more when it was over (usually I like standalone novels as I don’t have to commit to a series, but why did this have to be one?)
The characters of Lira and Elian were really intricate and well rounded and I loved how their relationship developed as the story progressed - the amount of sass was unbelievable.
To Kill a Kingdom was definitely my favourite book of 2018 and one that I can’t wait to reread. I have high hopes for future novels.
