this book was overall great! it satiated my appetite for badass female characters and genuinely lovable love interests. i thought the premise was curious and the worldbuilding- while at times slightly nonsensical- was pretty good! lira was strong, and at times emotionless, but not because the author wanted her to be 'not like other girls'. there was a textual reason for her coldness, which was super interesting and mirrored a lot of experiences i have had. elian is the epitome of a loveable guy, and he balanced snark with softness in a way most love interests fail to do. i never felt that he was creepy, or misogynistic. overall, this book was a great read, very fun and fast paced. i would definitely recommend this for fans of fantasy or enemies to lovers, in the vein of katniss and peeta but with the sea and sirens! an absolutely lovely read.
