So I really enjoyed this book! I haven't read many books about sirens or pirates and after reading this I feel like I definitely need to. I loved the atmosphere and the backstory behind the world that had been built. The thing stopping me from giving it 4 stars has to be that it just doesn't feel like a memorable book to me - as much as I enjoyed it and had fun reading this story, I didn't fall in love with any of the characters or the plot enough to have this become one of my favourite books.

The characters were cool and I liked them, I just didn't love any of them. The one thing I really appreciated was that Elian wasn't arrogant and annoying for most of the book and actually respected his crew members and his family, which I feel like is pretty rare for books with Princes in them. I also loved the dynamic between Lira and her evil mother and enjoyed how that played out - with the not-so-subtle little mermaid plot line.

The fight scene near the end was pretty intense and finally brought the drama I'd been waiting for since the beginning of the book which started out pretty dark (just take the first line, for example) and began to subside almost immediately, which I wish hadn't happened. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the romance, mainly because I just didn't feel any romantic chemistry between the main two characters, but I still enjoyed their banter nonetheless.

Overall, this book was decent and was fun to read!
