This is a romance dark fantasy novel. At first, you despise Lira, but eventually you understand why she is the way she is. Elian on the other hand, is immediately intriguing and he’s obviously a hot pirate. The way they get together in the book is wonderful. They’e great characters. Even the mother of Lira, the Sea Queen is a well-written character. At first, I thought she was weird and I disliked the way she was written, but it grew on me and I ended up liking that a lot.
The writing style is just as you would expect the writing style of a young adult fantasy book to be. It’s easy to follow with beautifully written scenes. There are plenty of surprises along the way. This book will keep you intrigued and you won’t be able to put it away. Even though it’s a standalone right now, I do think it could be a great duology. All in all, I definitely recommend this book for people who like to read enemies to lovers dark fantasy novels!
