I really adored this book! It follows Lira, the murderous Siren princess known to humans as the Prince's Bane, due to her penchant for ripping out the hearts of royals. We also follow Elian, the siren-hunting pirate prince. When Lira's tail is taken from her after she falls out of favour with her mother, the Sea Queen, she is rescued by Elian. Lira has what Elian needs to complete the quest he is set on, and Elian has what Lira needs to regain her mother's favour (though he doesn't know her true identity). But what happens when these two sworn mortal enemies start to realise they are more alike than it seems?

This is a beautiful story of humanity and self-development. If you want a real slow-burn character arc and development that is so complex, then this one is for you! There is much more to it than the plot (which is great BTW), and I think this story really really shined when it came to the evolution of Lira and Elian's relationship.

This is the kind of book to make you shout out loud when things go bad, and make involuntary happy sounds when things go good. It's well worth a read and is a great addition to the fairytale retelling genre. I would call it a worthy rival to The Cruel Prince! So from March 6th, grab yourself a copy!
