Don't get me wrong, I love a Little Mermaid retelling, I LOVE YA fantasy, and I absolutely adore books set under the sea. I just unfortunately couldn't get invested in this book at all.
The opening line was fantastic, I was drawn in. However, I was promised a highly dangerous siren, violence, a dramatic start to what should be a fantastic read. Unfortunately, as we carried on through, there was no feeling relating to this opening line at all.
It is a very predictable read, we can guess from the beginning exactly the way the story will go, and it does.
I am a big fan of world building and character building, both of which I felt lacked in this book. There wasn't a single character that I related to, or could bring myself to be interested enough in to really get a feel of the 'drama' that was unfolding.
Unfortunately this book wasn't for me, the potential for a great story was there, it just fell a little flat for me.
