I am just sitting here in shock. So, this is somewhat of a little mermaid retelling, except it has a totally unique spin, pulling in other aspects of folklore. Lira is a siren known as the 'Prince's Bane' - she's infamous for killing princes, she's the daughter of the mighty Sea Queen who is pretty much terrible (she's the reason Lira is the way she is - and her story is actually quite sad) Elian is a prince who’s pastime is being a pirate and killing sirens. Elian is hilariously sassy and amazing. The plot line is amazing, There's romance, banter, pirates, action, drama, adventure, strong character arcs, and lots of fun kingdoms. Alexandra is a master of creative writing, character, and storytelling. I honestly loved every bit of this book. The world drew me in and I couldn’t get enough of the story, reading this felt as though I was there in the story myself.
