I literally adored this book. Every component as well as plot of the narrative seemed outstanding. Alexandra Christo went above and beyond with this one. The characters were exceptionally formed, and you developed to really like them as you went through the book. Elian was my favourite character; I appreciated his humour but also his sarcasm, which is the reason I enjoyed this novella so very much. This was one of my most anticipated books of the year, and I'm delighted it didn't let me down. I couldn't stop once I started. It felt quite genuine, which is ironic given that it is a fantasy. Something about Lira and Elian drew me in and I couldn't get enough of them.

But I do have a handful of frustrations. The big reveal (when one of the protagonists discovered the other's identity) was overly straightforward. To be honest, I'm not sure what I was expecting. Perhaps a little more yelling? Or is it merely a heated debate? Whatever, I'll ignore that portion. However, Elian's final conclusion is difficult to comprehend. Maybe I'm simply used to fantasy characters being too convoluted, and I can't bear the thought of them being simple.
