I adored this book so much and for such a short novel it really told an engaging and exciting story and managed to close up the plot in a nice, well-paced manner. Something that not a lot of books can atone to.
As far as retellings go this is certainly one of my favorites as it takes a new and interesting spin on the story of 'The Little Mermaid' and turns it into something more dark and alluring, all the while keeping it witty, romantic, and exciting.
We have powerful female characters! (Lira being one of the best female protagonists in a fantasy novel IMO) and a love story to swoon over, especially as it leans heavily into the enemies to lovers trope, which keeps you hooked on their romance the more it intensifies.
I also adored the dual narration between Elian and Lira as it kept it fresh and interesting as we proceeded to get into the heads of both characters :)
