Prince and Princess fall in love, but this aint Disney!!!
The dark image of the cover is already foreboding for what is to come inside. the story leads by telling of how the sirens rip the hearts out of the chests of their victims, so we know we are not in Disney territory.
The story is told from the two different viewpoints of Lira, the Princes' Bane, a siren princess, heir to the undersea throne, who has stolen the heart's of Princes only; and Elian, the Siren Killer, prince of Midas and pirate - quite the combo.
Defying the rules and taking a Princes heart before she was supposed to Lira meets the wrath of her mother the Sea Queen, who banishes her and transforms her into a human (very Disney), to return she must get the heart of the Siren Killer. His ship finds her floating in the middle of the sea and rescues her, initially not trusting her, but eventually coming around she becomes part of the crew who are on a quest to find the Crystal of Keto, the key to defeating the Sea Queen. And it turns out that Lira is their key to finding this crystal, only she knows how to break it free. Leading to the ultimate showdown in the Ice Palace atop the Cloud Mountain of Pagos, quite the epic finale location indeed.
